John H. McCracken is a graduate of Western Kentucky University and the Cumberland School of Law, Samford University, in Birmingham, Alabama. He was admitted to the Kentucky bar in 1986 and the Tennessee bar in 2004. John moved back to Kentucky and practiced law with his father in Franklin, Kentucky until 1988 when he began practicing insurance defense litigation, including workers’ compensation, in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was partner in the firm of Cole, Moore, and McCracken and in 1996 became partner in the firm of Bishop, McCracken, and Potter, PSC, where he continued to practice insurance defense. In 2005, John opened his own firm practicing civil litigation, included workers’ compensation cases. He is admitted to practice in both the Western and Eastern Districts of the United States District Court in Kentucky, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Middle District of Tennessee, District Court.

In January 2017, John was appointed as an administrative law judge for the Kentucky Department of Workers’ Claims. He served in this position until December 31, 2023. As an administrative law judge, he rendered over 800 opinions and presided over a thousand workers’ compensation claims dealing with almost every aspect of workers’ compensation law. In January 2024, John joined U’Sellis Mayer & Associates as an associate focusing on workers’ compensation defense and subrogation.
